Abstract

Mortlake is an inner-western suburb of Sydney, adjacent to the Parramatta River. The Mortlake Gasworks provided gas to most of Sydney for almost 100 years. After closure as a gasworks, the site remained heavily contaminated with waste typical of gasworks, such as tarry organic compounds.
