Abstract
There were 85,858 births to 84,379 women reported in 2001, the lowest number for the last 5 years (Table 1). However, the proportion of all births that were multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.) increased from 2,393 to 2,932-an increase from 2.7 per cent to 3.4 per cent.
